Materials Needed:

  • Yellow construction paper
  • Green construction paper
  • Brown tissue paper
  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • Glue / Tape

Instructions:

  1. Making the Petals:
    • Fold a sheet of yellow paper in half.
    • Cut out petal shapes along the folded edge.
    • Create multiple petals to form a full sunflower.
    • Tape them in a circle.
  2. Creating the Center:
    • Take brown tissue paper and scrunch it into a puff to resemble the sunflower’s textured middle. Only make half the puff so you can glue the other half on the sunflower.
  3. Crafting the Leaves:
    • Fold green paper in half and cut out leaf shapes.
    • Fold each leaf like an accordion to create natural-looking texture.
    • Snip small triangular pieces along the folds for added detail.
    • Staple or glue these to the stem area to make them look more realistic.
  4. Assembling the Sunflower:
    • Arrange the petals in a circular pattern and glue or tape them together.
    • Attach the brown tissue center from a hog glue gun.
    • Finally, add the textured leaves to complete the look.

These sunflowers can be used as part of the door decorations.

For classroom door decorations my favorite paper to use is Astrobrights paper. It doesn’t fade in the sun like construction paper.
