We took a day trip to Canberra, the vibrant capital city of Australia, known for its rich political history, cultural landmarks, and natural beauty.

Getting There

Canberra is easily accessible from major cities like Wollongong and Sydney. Driving from Wollongong takes approximately 2.5 hours without traffic, offering picturesque views of the Australian countryside. 

First Stop: Canberra Centre

Upon arrival, we first went to eat at the Canberra Centre, a bustling shopping hub in the heart of the city. Here, you can enjoy eating and shopping (like any mall). 

Exploring the City Highlights

Parliament House

A must-visit landmark, Parliament House is the political heart of Australia. Inside, discover the grandeur of the chambers where national decisions are made. A highlight is the display of the Magna Carta, a historical document that influenced constitutional law worldwide.

Old Parliament House

Just a short distance away lies the Old Parliament House, now hosting the Museum of Australian Democracy.

Australian War Memorial

A poignant tribute to Australia’s military history, the Australian War Memorial combines a shrine, a world-class museum, and an extensive archive.

Mount Ainslie Lookout

For panoramic views of Canberra’s meticulously planned city layout, head to Mount Ainslie Lookout. A short drive leads to this vantage point, where you can capture stunning photographs of the cityscape.

Australian Institute of Sport (AIS)

Sports enthusiasts will appreciate a visit to the Australian Institute of Sport, where many of the country’s top athletes train.
