When your good friends move to a new city in 2012, it’s the perfect excuse for a getaway! That’s exactly what led us to Vancouver, Canada, for a three-night adventure packed with scenic views, bustling markets, and charming neighborhoods. Our trip at the end of August was filled with crisp coastal air, towering mountains, and the vibrant energy of one of Canada’s most picturesque cities. If you’re planning a short trip to Vancouver, here’s our itinerary along with some helpful tips to make the most of your stay.

Day 1: Exploring Granville Island & Downtown Vancouver
We touched down in Vancouver eager to explore. First stop: Granville Island, a bustling hub of creativity and flavors nestled under the Granville Street Bridge. We wandered through the colorful Public Market, where the scent of freshly baked pastries mingled with the salty sea breeze. For lunch, we savored crispy, fish and chips at a cozy spot inside the market—a delightful introduction to Vancouver’s fresh seafood scene.
Later, we reunited with our friends, who were excited to show us the heart of downtown. We began at the Canadian Trail, a scenic waterfront promenade offering panoramic views of the harbor, dotted with sailboats dancing on the gentle waves. The striking Pixelated Orca sculpture caught our eye—a modern art tribute to the region’s marine life. Nearby, the Olympic Cauldron, a remnant of the 2010 Winter Olympics, stood proudly against the backdrop of glass skyscrapers reflecting the afternoon sun.
As our day ended, we made our way to the sprawling beauty of Stanley Park. The views were simply breathtaking—the shimmering cityscape on one side, serene waters on the other. We capped off the evening with a peaceful stroll along the Lions Gate Bridge, its twinkling lights mirrored in the waters below.

Next, we hopped on the SeaBus for a scenic sail to North Vancouver’s Lonsdale Quay. From the bustling market, we enjoyed postcard-perfect views of Vancouver’s skyline framed by majestic mountains.
But the adventure didn’t stop there. We hit the road for Whistler, cruising along the breathtaking Sea to Sky Highway. The drive was a masterpiece in itself—towering cliffs on one side, expansive ocean views on the other, and snow-capped mountain peaks gleaming in the distance, even in August.
